This Sabbath will be an emphasis on Adventist Education. We have four young ladies from Emerald Christian Academy who will be sharing short devotional thoughts. This is part of their Bible class assignment which has been designed to help them learn how to speak in public and to learn how to give a testimony regarding some spiritual insight they have gained. These young women are terrified at the thought of having to be up front and speaking, but I have heard their presentations and I know they are going to do very well … we all will be blessed by what they have to share.

There will be a fellowship meal this week after church. Thank you to all who help with this ministry each week…. and THANK YOU to all the men who did the meal preparation, setup, and cleanup last Sabbath in honor of all the women on Mother’s Day.

Last Sabbath there was an outdoor vespers at the Rodman’s home. There were probably about 30 people who attended. We enjoyed a potluck meal together, lots of fellowship, singing and a short worship thought. These vespers programs are such a wonderful way to spend the hours of Sabbath! Be sure to watch for the next one and then come and join the fellowship.

Our church yard sale will be this coming Sunday from 9am until 4pm … except for those that are willing to help. Their hours are 5:30am until 5pm! Della Rodman is always the first one there to get things started in the morning, and of course she and Don are also the last ones to leave! It makes a long day for them. Come when you can. Any help would be appreciated. We especially need help prior to 9am to get things set out and priced. Then from 4-5pm there is help needed to clean up after the sale.

The Emerald Christian Academy Constituency Meeting has been rescheduled to May 29th. It is written in our constitution that we need to let the church members know 2 weeks before we have it. That is the reason for the change.

IMPORTANT CHANGE: Due to structural problems with the Milo Academy Bridge, Better Life Broadcasting Camp Meeting has had a change in venue.
The 2012 Better Life Camp Meeting will be held at the Rogue Valley Adventist Academy in Medford, OR. The event will be held all day Sabbath, June 9th only. Our keynote speaker is still Stephen Bohr and our musical guests, Dan Holder, For His Glory and Sherry Galvez are still scheduled to bless us with their songs of praise
Those who will be attending should bring their own meals and arrange their own lodging if needed. There are several hotels to choose from. There will also be limited dry camping at Rogue Valley Academy at no charge or campers may find campsites at nearby campgrounds.

Fundraiser for the Veneta Adventist School
Sun, May 20
11 am – 4 pm
at Countryside Christian School
88401 Huston Road, Veneta (next door to the SDA church)

Games, Food, Pony Rides, Face Painting, Raffles, Bounce House, etc.

Zany Zoo will be there 1 – 3 pm with their exotic animals for people to see & touch.

Thanks so much!
~ Beth Whitsell

National Geographic International (NGI) will interview Steve Wohlberg for a segment in their upcoming documentary on the phenomenal number of large-scale bird, fish, and animal deaths around the world. The documentary will draw on Wohlberg’s expertise to tie together these deaths with the increase of natural disasters. Wohlberg will use the Bible to show the nearness of the end times. NGI will film Wohlberg this Sabbath, May 19, as he speaks at the Capitol Memorial Church in Washington D.C., and during a further interview at the church on Sabbath afternoon.
Additionally, Hope Channel confirms that Pastor Steve Wohlberg is the featured guest on the live production of Disclosure: The Future Declassified, Thursday, May 17, hosted by Shawn Boonstra.

This coming Sabbath there will be a special concert provided by Don Corcoran’s choir and orchestra. They have shared here before and we have been richly blessed by there music and message.

The fellowship meal this coming Sabbath will be hosted by the men of the church – and hopefully the food prepared by them also. Our desire is to give our wives a break this Mother’s Day weekend.

On May 19th the Emerald Christian Academy Sermon Team will have our worship service. Several students have been preparing and practicing to share with us some of the spiritual insights they have gained recently. As Chris Tait mentioned last Sabbath, these students are terrified as they anticipate being up front and talking to a group of people – but that is the only way to overcome that fear!

May 20 — Annual Yard Sale for Laos. Start your spring cleaning and collecting of no-longer-used items and bring them to the annual Yard Sale for Laos. Funds this year will be used for the “Molam Project” to make CD’s to share Jesus love through Molam story-telling of the “Passion Of Love” (the last 13 chapters of Desire of Ages).
Questions — contact Don or Della Rodman — 541.747.9543.

The Nominating Committee needs help with suggestions for filling the following positions. If you think you might be interested in serving in one of these posiitons, or if you would like more information about what is involved with a particular position, please contact Pastor Greg.

The last few sermons have dealt with Reflecting God’s Grace, Reflecting God’s Love, and this week will be Reflecting God’s Faith. The Bible tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God … so it seems like we need to have a pretty clear idea what Faith is all about. The sermon this week will be focusing on Hebrews 11 – the faith chapter.

There will be no fellowship meal this Sabbath. It is a Home Fellowship Sabbath – an opportunity to invite a guest or someone you would like to get to know better to your home for lunch.

Shirley is doing well after her kidney stone operation. She will be having her stints out on Monday and then she’ll be feeling much better!

I’d like to buy some used lumber for building a chicken coup. If you run across someone with some let me know.

Next Sabbath Don Corcoran’s Greater Eugene Choir and orchestra will be having a Mother’s Day concert for us. This same group gave us a Christmas concert this past year and it was a wonderful blessing. Don’t miss out on this Sabbath event!

On May 28th our Gospel Worker Intern, Josh Rayburn, will be having our sermon. Katelyn Carr is scheduled to preach on June 30th.

We had nearly 30 people come out this past Thursday evening for supper together ( better than Cafe Yum!) and to watch the BACK TO EDEN gardening DVD. Everyone really enjoyed what they learned and can’t wait to make some major changes to how they do their gardens this year. You can watch this DVD on line at the following web site: http://backtoedenfilm.com/ Thank you to Robert and Valerie Feher for hosting this event and preparing the meal.

A recent short PBS video on Adventist longevity is online. It features some of the unique beliefs and practices of the Adventist Church which have led to an increased segment of its members living longer healthier lives. http://video.pbs.org/video/2213969092

Over the years we have become associated with a number of talented musicians and songwriters. We’ve often daydreamed about a music tour that would be biblically grounded, of the highest musical quality, and evangelistically savvy. Those dreams have become reality. The first Songs of Ascent Concert Tour took place last year from April through June 2011.

We traveled all over California and featured a themed approach that included original songs from several young, spirited Adventist musicians, most of them being former students of our ARISE evangelism training program.

We’re so thankful to Jesus for the blessings and success of the tour, which included more than 20 concerts and added 3000 miles to a very carefully and thoroughly packed mini-van. Christ was uplifted and hearts were moved by the gospel-centered music provided by the “musicianaries” (they are musicians and missionaries) that led those attending on the Eden to Eden journey through Scripture. We believe this creative project is just the beginning of a whole new way of “doing” ministry and evangelism.

This Sabbath I will be going back to the topic of healthy living. I will be showing the DVD called, “THE ADVENTISTS”. This is a documentary that was put together by a non-Adventist and then shown on the PBS television network. It is scheduled to be shown again in 2012. It presents the Adventist health message in a very positive light, even giving information on the strong spiritual foundation for the health message. It is an excellent presentation that will inspire you to be more healthy and make you proud to be a Seventh-day Adventist.

The NOMINATING COMMITTEE names being presented to the church for approval are as follows:

Mildred Rogers
Valerie Feher
Nancy Fry
Emma Lippincott
Clara Young
Donald Stoll
Nimita Nelapudi

These names will be voted on April 21st. The reason names are presented on week and voted the next is to give members a chance to speak up if they are uncomfortable with the composition of the committee. Seldom, in my experience, has this ever happened – but it is a good policy to have in place. If the church body chooses to approve this list then we will have our first meeting on April 26th at 6:30pm.

Don Corcoran’s GREATER EUGENE CHOIR will be here on Mother’s Day Sabbath to present a special concert – especially dedicated to all the women of our congregation.

Since it is Mother’s Day, and since our wives and mom’s deserve a break, Men, why don’t we take care of the Fellowship Meal for them? That means that we will set up the tables and get the food prepared for serving. Can we do that? Some of you are good cooks – why not bring one of your favorite dishes and give your wives a break.

I have been teaching a class at Emerald Christian Academy on sermon presentation. Some of the students will be here on May 19th (tentative date) to present the mini-sermons that they have been working on. They have some great stories and biblical insights that they are planning to share.

Scott Price’s father recently passed away. His father (John) was a wonderful christian man who will be missed by family and friends. When we loose our loved ones it makes us long all the more for Christ’s soon return that we might be reunited again.

May 26th Josh Rayburn (our Gospel Worker Intern) will be having our sermon.

May 14th - 6:30pm – Elder’s Mtg.

May 15th - 6pm	Finance Mtg, 7pm	Church Board

The following Sabbath I will be back to the topic of health and will be showing the video, “THE ADVENTISTS”.

This Sabbath there is NO fellowship meal at the church. It is a HOME FELLOWSHIP SABBATH … an opportunity for you to invite someone to your home for lunch. Invite a new member and get to know them better!

Here’s some info on an application that you might want to download onto your smartphone. I copied this info from the GLEANER ONLINE:

Dear Oregon Conference Prayer Warriors:

I wanted to alert you to a great resource for those of you who can’t live without your smartphones or tablets – a digital prayer list! ShareHim sells print versions of this, but this is free. Here is their description:

“We also have a digital version you can use on your mobile, free of charge. Android version is available from Google Play. iPhone version is available from theApple store. You can also just search the stores for “ShareHim”. The app allows you to put names of people you want to pray for, track activities you do with them, and keep a list of answered prayer requests.”

You can access your contacts list from this app and easily add to your prayer list. Who said technology was all the devil’s handiwork? It can also advance the cause of God as well!

There will be a Fellowship Meal tomorrow after church service tomorrow. Patti Beemer will be hosting the meal. There is no particular theme. Since we are having a communion service tomorrow, men, we will need some help putting the tables back in place after the footwashing service.

A note from Dale and Lisa Wienke:
We sure miss all of you as well. Dale is doing much better, the infection is certainly on its way out, there is still some healing to be done but the danger has been averted.
Brian too is doing very well, you just wouldn’t believe how that young man can get around in his wheelchair, he certainly has surprised all of us.
We plan on being home at the end of April and are looking forward to it very much.
We had one branch come down on the side of the mobile home but it did not do any damage. However our front deck leaked when it snowed the last time, but I think the Lord has protected us from any disasters.
Please send our love to all there, we are praying for you too.

Lisa

We need to select a committee which will begin the Nominating Committee process. Last week only two name nominations were turned in. Obviously we need more participation than that. The nominating forms are in your bulletin again this week. Please fill one out and turn it in this week (put in the offering or place my foyer mail box).

Stella Hatch is going to be baptized this Sabbath. Please be sure to extend your greetings to her this week.

Blessings,

Pastor Greg

The divine influences that come in answer to the prayer of faith will accomplish in the soul of the suppliant all for which he pleads. For the pardon of sin, for the Holy Spirit, for a Christlike temper, for wisdom and strength to do His work, for any gift He has promised, we may ask; and the promise is, “Ye shall receive.”

On one particular day this past week I visited with three different people. One visit was with a person who seldom makes it to church. It’s easy for me to assume that those who don’t regularly attend church have become spiritually careless. The Lord showed me otherwise. This person still has a strong relationship with the Lord, is looking for ways to witness to others about salvation, God’s grace, the Sabbath and the like. They are also watching 3ABN. No, they are not at church each week, but they have not abandoned the Lord!

The next person is one whom I have not seen in church for years. My visit with them revealed that a past painful personal interaction had made it hard for them to come back to church (it was an incident that occurred somewhere else) … but, this person said, “Please keep working on me – I do want to come back to church!”. We never will know all the pain and personal struggles some are experiencing – and how hard it may have been for them to walk through the doors of our church. We need to be ready to greet these individuals with words of love and compassion and avoid doing or saying anything that might appear like we are being critical of them for being away so long.

The third conversation was a phone call I made to a person who had filled out a guest card one Sabbath, but whom had not returned to church. I was encouraging them to come and worship with us again. This person began crying on the phone and saying, “I want to get reconnected with the church but you don’t know how hard it is!”. I did not find out the source of this persons pain, but I would say the same thing as above. When a guest, or a returning member walks through our doors here is an appropriate greeting to give them, “It is so good to have you here with us today!” .. or, “I am so glad you came today”. There is no need to ask them to explain why they have been absent from church for so long. That kind of questioning can be very uncomfortable for the newly returning member.

May the Love of God shine through each one of us as we greet each other, and our guests, on Sabbath morning. By the way, I should add … we are ALL greeters, not just those who stand at the door.

Pastor Greg

Scott Price’s father (John) passed away this past week. He had been struggling with cancer. I had a chance to meet and visit with Scott’s dad. He was a wonderful man and a good Christian. I know his family will greatly miss him.

There will be a fellowship meal this Sabbath after church. Thank you to those of you who bring food each week so that our guests have a place to eat before they go on their way.

Josh and Katelyn will have their Bible Basics class in the fellowship hall at 2pm this Sabbath.

It’s Nominating Committee time! Your bulletin this Sabbath will have a piece of paper on which you are being asked to list 5 people whom you would like to recommend for the Nominating Committee. The committee will be selected from those members with the most votes.

Also, in your foyer mail box is a piece of paper which gives you the opportunity to indicate whether or not you are willing to continue serving in the positions you currently hold. When you are through marking those papers, please put them in my foyer box.

There are several positions that I know the Nominating Committee will need to fill:

		Primary SS Class Leader

		Head Deaconess

		Finance Committee Member

		School Board Representative

If you would like your name to be considered by the Nominating Committee for any of the above positions, please let me know.

This Sabbath I wanted to begin a sermon series on healthy living … and I’ve been sick all week! I’ve had it all; fever, nausea, sniffles, aches and pain … It’s just helped motivate me on the topic!

This Sabbath is our HOME FELLOWSHIP SABBATH. That means that we are encouraging families to invite guests and/or members to their home for the afternoon meal and there will not be a potluck meal at the church.

I received an email from a man in Germany today. He is studying the topic of the New Jerusalem in art history. His search connected him with our website and our baptistry stained glass window. He was wanting some information about it, which I was glad to provide.

FROM SPRINGFIELD CHURCH: Here is something that I would like to invite you to share with your congregation: We have David Allen, retired Bible teacher from CAA, coming to Springfield on March 2 and 3 for a Seminar on Studying the Bible and the question of different Bible translations. He did this seminar for my previous church and folks really appreciated it.

Thanks and blessings, Lutz Binus

Friday, 7pm – Getting the Most out of your Bible Study. Learn how to make your personal study time more dynamic and rewarding

Sabbath, 2pm – Trusting the Translations. Why so many translations, how to evaluate which one is trustworthy and the right one for you. Very helpful!

The Spanish congregation that rents from us has a new pastor. His name is Pastor Juan Pacheco. He’ll be officially on duty in a couple of weeks. The previous pastor, Oswaldo Villalobos, has been transferred to the Forest Grove Spanish Church (west of Portland).

Lincoln Steed, the editor of the Adventist publication LIBERTY MAGAZINE will be preaching at our church on March 17th. He will also be having an afternoon presentation at 2pm, which will include time for questions and answers. A lot of interesting things have been happening in our country and in Europe in regards to religious liberty. Lincoln will help us understand how those events provide outreach opportunities for us. Lincoln Steed is an engaging speaker and we will be blessed to have him share with us. Please not the afternoon meeting time has been moved forward due to his need to catch an earlier plane back home.

Weston Young has embarked on another mission trip. You may follow his groups progress at the following website www.pacmissions.org/missions/zimbabwe-2012/. Several other projects are also listed at that sight, so you will need to look for the Zimbabwe reports to follow Weston’s experience. You may also sign up to receive updates if you would like to. There are pictures also. There are 3 posts so far entitled: Update from LAX, We Have Arrived, and First Day in Zimbabwe.

The Great Hope Project
The North American Division (NAD) is encouraging every member to read the full version of the Great Controversy by Ellen G. White during the first half of 2012 and share a contemporary version (11 chapters) entitled, The Great Hope, with friends and neighbors. Books, which will be available May 15, may be pre-ordered by churches or individuals directly from the local Adventist Book Center or online. Read more about this project from the NAD website. In addition, the Great Controversy DVD Project, produced by Myers Media in conjunction with the Paradise (Calif.) Church, is a visual resource to consider.
